Danimal

Just a man...
This is a beautiful old Sansui! WAY out of my price range but very cool none the less.

Very cool indeed. I dont think it is worth McIntosh pricing but thats just my opinion.

I don't know what to say. That is one cool piece. Same year I was born. Can you imagine coming across something like that in a dusty corner of some run down pawn shop out on highway 61?

Sansui could be called the McIntosh of Japan. If you were building electronics chances are you were using a Sansui transformer. They built bullet proof parts, then moved on to making even more bullet proof gear.

This piece is something I would be proud to own, but it is way out of my price range.

I wonder if this is the same unit I missed out on Chicago CL a month or two back that had a $20 asking price. :tears: I remember the ad stated "Sansui Tube SM-80". Either that or two rare Sansui pieces in Chicago area of late.

I would think anything more than $300.00 would be excessive to be honest, it is a classic retro looking unit and that is where its value is.

Sometimes I would see gold pocket style watches priced way out of reality like this receiver is in flea markets because people assumed that because it was and old and gold it had to be worth a mint.

kicking myself.. saturday morning a walked away from a non-working 1000 for $5. Didn't need another project.

Actually I think the value is in the rarity. It would be wonderful to have someone who really knows and can evaluate vintage gear be able to go through something like this and post their findings, especially about the tuner section. After all, this is contemporaneous with valuable pieces from Fisher, Scott, Mcintosh and Sherwood. Maybe it's a sonic gem, maybe a sonic bust. But it's so rare that almost no one knows.

Yikes, I didn't even look at the price, just the pics. $1k seems a little excessive. I could see maybe $600 fully serviced and ready, with a good tube complement.
