Vintage Akai Speakers

Does anyone know anything about these vintage Akai Speakers. They are Model SW-155. Found them at a garage sale for $10 for the pair. Couldn't pass them up. They bring back memories of my youth. Sorry about the poor picture. It is dark in my bedroom.

Thanks for the response, cubby01. An old ad from 1972 says they are 4-way. As far as your other questions, I don't know enough about speakers to answer your questions. I am just a part-time collector.

Coaxial means that the speaker would be integrated, or rather you would see a tweeter sticking out of the center of the mid/woofer cone. Sealed (acoustic suspension) means the air inside the box is trapped inside, and ported means there will be a large hole to allow air to move in and out of the cabinet. Sealed enclosures generally offer tighter, more controlled bass while a ported enclosure typically allows for lower, boomier bass.

A quick google search shows them to be a ported speaker. While not a classic vintage speaker, they were probably worth the $10 investment. I would clean the pots and maybe even splurge and put in some new electrolyte capacitors

Always loved those wooden fronts. I remember many Sansui from that era came with those front grills. I used to go to a Records Shop just to see and listen the speakers they had, mounted on a wall...

Those look exactly like my Roberts speakers which were as ive read just rebranded Akai for the U.S. market.Not really too bad ,you have to take into account their from the early seventies and low wattage but fairly well built.I gave them to my s.i.l. and she loves them.Decent bass and if placed correctly fills up the house with pretty good sound for something 40 plus years old.

have a pair of akai sw- 130. had some 12" Utah woofers with wizzer cones and put them in the akai,s. sound quite nice

very efficient, so that gives you lots of options re amps. 4 way means they are in kabuki territory. what do they sound like?
