Vintage Audio in the media

I've seen vintage audio popping up on TV and in movies. At the end of The Departed, they show a nice Mac system. Tonight I saw Bose 901's in a cingular ad.

I just saw "The Departed" last weekend also. Nice close-up shots of the meters while she is listening to the surveillance tape.

I was watching the Departed, and spotted the Mac gear across the room, before the tape was opened. I blurted out "Ooh, he's got a Mac setup!", much to the dissapointment and chagrin of the fellow company. The groans and eye rolling was plentiful.

I recently caught a Mac in an episode of CSI Las Vegas's chief charactor's home.

A Mac amp, looks like a Bang and Olufson (or a cheap copy Sharper Image) CD player, and a JVC DVD player- the 3-disc changer in light champagne- the same one I picked up a month ago for $20.

I can't recall the pre, but I think it's a Mac as well.

It's funny, I saw an old tape of the Price is Right from (Im guessing) the Mid-70s and one of the prizes was a complete Marantz system! They were lower end , maybe midfi; no models I had ever heard/heard of. The price was like 6000 for the whole showcase, which also included a small boat and some furniture. My buddy bought archived game shows off ebay, on VHS and the quality is pretty terrible. Probably transferred too many times in 30 years.

Anyway whats the Pontiac commercial where they smash up a vintage receiver? It was ran a few times last month, havent seen it since then. It opens with random objects, like TV's, cabinets, and the stereo being thrown onto pavement and smashing:thumbsdn:   Why would they need that for a car commercial, dammit?? (lol)

Oh, and on "That 70's show" they've got a cheapie Magnavox all-in-one with 8-track in the basement. I recognized it immediately because I owned one too.

My wife was fliipng thru channels and came across Stargate, the series. We'd seen the movie years ago. In the MacGyver guys ex-wifes house there was a nice looking stereo, but the flashed across it to quick to make an ID.

On the last episode of Ghost Whisperer, They were talking of the better sound of vinyl as compared to CD and MP3's, in reference to a system that the costar bought. She ended up getting eletrocuted and in the hospital when the turntable became possessed and shocked her. I tried to see what kind of setup the had, but I misssed it.

I want the mac stuff from departed...

Besides the sennheiser headphones, weren't there there mac speakers too? bookshelves, wallmounted...

I've been trying to figure out what that was for years now :scratch2:
