Vintage "Bose" Speakers with Phillips drivers?

Picked up a couple of unmarked speakers yesterday and would love to know what they actually are.
There was a blue sticky note on one that simply said "Bose speaker", I thought that for $10 being in nice condition they might be a bargain although they sure didn't look like any of my other Bose speakers.

Now I've had a chance to open them up it appears they have a AD 8066/W6 (or w8, it's pretty smudged) woofer and a AD0160/T8 tweeter. These being Phillips speakers as far as I can see sort of makes me think the little note might have lied to me. If need be I should be able to get a picture of the crossovers as well, they are attached to the inside of the front of the speaker and pretty hard to get a look at.

Either way though, very heavy cabs with pretty unmarked veneer and nice clean front grills puts them down as keepers. The real shame is they lack connectors on the back and simply have wires coming out straight from the crossovers, usually a something I would expect from much lighter/cheaper speakers of years gone by.

If anyone can tell me what they actually are that would be a great relief to my nagging curiosity.

Definitely not BOSE.

I used to have a large set of those, 25 years ago, with two of those Philips tweeters and a 12" version of that woofer.

As far as I could tell, that's what they were. Philips speakers.

From looking up the woofer model they do seem to be quite common, lots of them going in projects by the looks of it.
Were the grills on yours just fabric over a solid wood cut out?

Really don't look like BOSE to me either.... not the drivers nor the configuration... unless they some type of hybrid design hidden from the masses.... :dunno:

The grills on mine were a thick woven fabric like yours but on a frame with a cross brace in the middle. Also held on with velcro.

I also recall all they had in the way of a crossover was a capacitor in series with the tweeters.

Once I got the grills off I was quite sure they were not Bose as well.
These do look to have proper crossovers with coils, cap and resistors, they are just attached to a really annoying spot.

Are those woofers really only held in by two screws? If so, that's almost definitely not how they were originally made, especially since IME the steel used on those Philips woofer frames was very thin.

Of course not! That would be insane, there is 3 screws lol

Who ever wrote on the blue sticky note simply didn't know what they were.

In any case, pretty nice drivers. How do they sound?

Have only set them up quickly to see if they worked so far but they did seem nice enough. Nothing mind blowing but very good for $10.

The grill cloth was half the reason I bought them I'd say.
Managed a ok photo of the crossover if anyone is interested. It's not the best as I can't see where I'm taking the picture but it gives you a good idea.
