Vintage Gear in TV Shows

I recently noticed some odd Anthony Gallo type speakers in Joey's apartment on the series "Friends". They are in his entertainment center at head level. They are cobalt blue with two drivers and a bottom port each. I have no idea what brand they are. Probably something cheap designed to look exotic so they can charge 15 times what they should retail for. Anybody else see them?

I noticed some gear in Jack O,neill's livingroom on Stargate.

Yup, found it. totally by accident too, happened to glance at the tv on tonights episode rerun.

season 7 episode 21. theres a tt, and 2 other silver faced items.

downloading it now, I'll try to post a screenie later.

What is the hifi in the Cosby Show that Cliff Huxtable uses to seduce his wife Claire? To me it looks like an early 80's Technics. Silver, but digital looking. That man has good taste! (In music, of course...:D)

I saw vintage on an episode of "The Sopranos." It's the one where Tony's uncle shoots him and one of Tony's associates is despondent about not getting to "retire" to Florida and is forced to be a snitch for the FBI. He hangs himself in his basement using a Large Advent with orange fried egg tweeter as the platform to stand on.

Ha ha! I'll have to find this episode! That's awesome!:D

how about the "Hi-Fi" in the Brady Bunch shows? ugly little all in one crap...

I remember the episode where they replaced their big console with it. I think it sat on top of the old console for the rest of the series.

JR's office on Dallas has a reel to reel, and some other stereo equipment along with a 19" TV in a cabinet.

Just saw the latest episode of "Psych". During which they enter a pawn shop which in the background has a virtual cornucopia of stereo stuff with a few silver faced beauties. The next day I saw a minute or two of the movie "Sleeping with the Enemy". During the scene when Julia Robert's new love interest takes her to the school he works at as a drama teacher and allows her to play on the auditorium stage, he sets the mood by starting a minty looking Pioneer cassette deck sitting on a silver faced receiver, not sure of the brand. Funny.

what about the Sopranos? they had the SOTA scene where the one gangsta says to the other, "hey - is that a SOTA?" and there on display is a classic saphire star as i recall.
it was such good press that is was on the SOTA website for a time. i wondered if SOTA arranged it?

Yeah, I was watching that episode of Psych as well. I probably wouldn't have even thought to look but I had dipped into this thread earlier in the week and when the pawn shop scene it occured to me to see what I could make out. Not much as it was but still a fun game.

I've noticed that Sota Turntables is listed as a sponsor of House so I'm guessing that's what you get a glimpse of now and then. I've been driving myself nuts trying to figure out what those speakers are in his office too.
I love that show:yes:

A bit late, but I noticed the same thing too. As soon as I saw Sota Turntabes listed in the credits, I had to google it. Nice looking stuff, I wouldn't mind being sponsored by them.

In any case, I think its time for me to whip out my DVD of high fidelity* and try to sharpen some screenshots of the gear...

*One of my favourite movies based on one of my favourite books

A short lived show on CBS called "Love Monkey" had the main character as a record collector and had some vintage stuff. I also remember a scene where an old blues guy was listening to some tapes on Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel.

In the new episode of Mad Men they had a large console that the son kept messing with. Don came home and his wife informed him that their son had broken the turntable and it would cost $18 to fix. $9 if he took it to the repairman. He goes upstairs to talk to his son about it and says "Mommy says you broke the hi-fi."

I may have gone overboard....

way overboard...

But here are some good screenshots from High Fidelity. Anyone who knows the gear better than I please try to figure out what it is.

What appears to be a Sansui AU-7700, one of my dream pices of gear

Koss headphones, can't figure out the model numbers

NAD CD522 and an 8-track player

The whole system, with a blurry JBL speaker behind Rob's chair

Rob making a silly gesture as he puts on Sennheiser phones, I want to say HD600 or HD650. Good view of a Marantz tuner, I think 105, the NAD, and the 8-track.

I've got a bunch more screenshots, but I think its best I lay off a bit, for the sake of our 56K friends. I do have some nice shots of the bakelite radios though... :D.

In the movie Secret, David Decovney uses a B & O Turntable and system while thinking about his wife.......

BTW Anyone one here been on the LISA MARIE?

I know its a bit off,but it has been on TV and Movies but in some scenes in Elvis Airplane shots, you can see his system, Then I went to Graceland and went on the "LISA MARIE" He has an SAE amp and Pre amp (right after you get on the plane, its to the left on the TOP shelf) Then there are JBL 4311s in EVERY room in the Jet ! I counted 10 J bells, In one room (I think it was the meeting room on the jet near the middle) he Also bad a smaller pair of Bose with an SAE EQ and tape deck. :thmbsp:

The original movie Amittyville horror

The original movie Amittyville horror has Altec Nines (still in the boxes) in multiple scenes in the movie.

I just don't get it.. the OP started the thread about TV SHOWS.. not movies.. It's easy to find gear in movies.. not so easy in TV shows.. I only see a couple shows listed... one being mine :D
Better reread it...........

Also, in the film High Fidelity John Cusack has a great vintage set up. It's been a while since I watched this movie, but he also had a great system that I remember noting.
