Vintage high-end CD vs. modern cheap CD/SACD?

In my limited experience, older highend beats newer cheap. I will also favor a purpose-built DAC over a consumer-electronics analog stage in a CD/DVD player where reliability & idiot proofing requirements influenced the analog output design. Less so, I expect, in a specialty DAC.
 
There are more than a few TDA 1541 DAC based quality CDPs available, (which is IMO is a [very] fine DAC) that with time spent cleaning the mechanicals of the players, will best whatever is next.
Plug the numbers into a calculator and discover the reason these 'Old' CDPs sounded the way they did.
The major issue with older players was directly effected by the
"garbage in/garbage out principal." Most old CDs had rather piss poor resolution due to the methods used within the transfer from the one medium to another. $ame for LPs, sad to say. pc
