Vintage JBL L100 cabinet finish?

Hello all,

Just wanted to ask the JBL experts in the forum, what were the finishes available for the L100 back in the day? I’m aware of the oiled walnut finish as it’s the most common variant that i see. A friend is offering me a nice L100 pair but the cabinets are colored black/gray. He says he never repainted them and that they were originally like that when purchased. Is he correct? Did JBL manufacture the L100s in both oiled walnut and black/gray finishes?

I remember a friend of my fathers had a set in black with black foam grills - this was in the mid 1970's. My father was looking at them to see if he liked them as he had to replace his Tannoy speakers after his Flame Linear amp blew the woofer in one of them apart. Apparently he wasn't impressed because he eventually bought a Magnavox (or similar) console.

My Dad bought a pair of L100s brand new. The oiled finish was what was offered. I still remember helping rub a fresh coat of oil into the wood finish.

Do you have photos of them that you could post?

Merci beaucoup!
