Vintage Kenwood HiFi Stereo Stack System & 2 Speakers 1993-94

Hi All,

I've been emptying my father's loft and trying my best to research some information on the internet about the following stack system, alas I cannot find anything of much use. I found this forum when searching for Kenwood stack systems from the 90s, so here I am I would greatly appreciate any information or support on the following,

Kenwood HiFi Stereo Stack System & 2 Speakers 1993-94
I believe it is from 1993/1994 as a result of one of the units being online: https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/kenwood/b-b5.shtml

It is in excellent condition, all working as expected, no issues, few scuffs with all the original units.

Includes:
Kenwood stereo power amplifier/graphics equaliser B-B5
Kenwood pre amplifier/tuner C-B5L
Kenwood stereo double auto reverse cassette deck X-B5
Kenwood multiple compact disk player DP-MB5
Kenwood left/right speaker LS-B5

Moderator deleted question about value of system as per AK rules all questions about value only allowed in Dollars & Sense forum.
I was thinking about keeping it for sentimental reasons, but it is simply too big for my flat.

This gear is 15 years newer (at least) for most of the gear that keeps it value due to build quality and nostalgia of the older buyer.

I would set it up and see what it can do moderator deleted comments about value as only allowed in Dollars & Sense forum.

28watts isn't much but the speakers with the unit are probably fairly sensitive and should play pretty loud with that as it is a designed system.

This thread may end up in the dollars and sense forum as that is where we discuss prices.

Hopefully, you can find someone that needs a full system and they can give you a few bucks for it. Have you looked at ebay completed sales for those model numbers to see if any of them sell and what for?

Maybe put a shelf in your crib to put the rig on and plug you streaming device into the aux input and enjoy it.

Ahh that makes sense! I understand and appreciate your thoughts on this. I'll give it a try on Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree, etc. I've tried ebay but only managed to find one of the units previously sold for $40, the others have never seemingly been sold individually from what I can see.

That's exactly what I've done in the mean time I've also actually sent Kenwood a message directly to see if that garners any information on RRP, details, manual, etc.

I actually had this system when I was in high School. To my 15 year old ears, it was heaven listening to Sweet Child o' mine, smashing pumpkins, Metallica, and REM in my room with an old analogue color organ controlling Christmas lights on the ceiling of my bedroom. 25+ years later I can't tell you how they compare to my current standards, but they sure sounded good to me at the time.

I upgraded when I was 17 to my dad's pair of monster University Audio custom built cabinets with 15" woofers, an 8 inch" midrange and a 6" horn tweeter. The cabinets were 42"x42"x30" pentagonal behemoths made by my grandfather and had to weigh 100 pounds each. Laying on a carpeted floor with those 4 feet on either side of me and listening to Nine Inch Nails Downward Spiral and the baselines to Steppenwolf have essentially ruined me ever since.

I have no idea how much they are worth today either by how they sound or as collectibles. But I have fond memories of them.
