Vintage Magnavox Stereo Console

A neighbor (through nextdoor.com) has asked me to possibly look at her 1950's Magnavox stereo/record player console. She says the turntable won't come up to speed and the changer function does not work. I suspect worn out belt/rubber wheels, but don't want to make any commitments unless I can identify a possible source of replacement parts. I can not identify the unit. Can any one identify this console?

I found the Magnavox in a 1969 catalog. It may have been made more than one year so it isn't necessarily a 1969. It is an Astro-Sonic 300, Early American Credenza model number 3742 and it retailed for $398.50.

Most of the time if you clean all of the old grease off of those changers and re-lube them they'll work fine.

Yeah nice , if she ever gets rid of it buy that thing looks cool .
Probably proper maintenance was not done , just needs oiled up haha. Or whatever oil you use for it’s parts.
Must sound nice .

Thanks alot Dan. The neighbor did say 1969, I was confusing her post with another one. So generally, no belts or rubber wheels to replace?

Generally you would want/need to replace the rubber belt or rubber idler wheel on this old of a turntable.

I haven't ever looked underneath a changer like that one but if it's like the older ones it will have an idler wheel. I'd try scuffing the old one up first and give that a try and if that doesn't work buy another one or have yours rebuilt.

I haven't ever bought anything from this place but I have heard others recommend them. I'm sure there are other places that you can get them from and maybe somebody will recommend some.

Got the request in for a straight on photo of the turntable. If it is a W800/802/812, then I did find a service manual that seems quite complete. And with thevoiceofmusic as a source of parts I am gaining confidence.
