Vintage Mitsubishi Audio Help

Total noob question here-- I picked up a bunch of vintage Misubishi audio equipment at an estate sale and I'm not quite sure how to connect everything up. The 3 pieces in question are a DA-R25 receiver, a DA-P30 Pre-Amplifier, and a DA-156 Equalizer. Using my slew of RCA cables--what goes where, and into what ports? It's my first time using a pre-amp and I'm stumped.

The preamp isn't required with a receiver but this receiver does have the ability to be used as a stand alone amplifier. The preamp would connect to the receiver "Main in" from the preamps outputs. The EQ would connect to the tape loop on the preamp, and all sources, CD, tuner, turntable, etc would connect to the appropriate input on the preamp.

Speakers would connect to the speaker jacks on the receiver.

Since the jumpers are missing from pre out to main in on the receiver, I can only guess that these 3 were connected together and used as a separate preamp, separate power amp, along with the EQ being connected to the tape loop on the preamp. Of course this makes the tuner in the receiver useless unless there were another individual tuner in the scheme somewhere.

As Grenadeslio pointed out, the receiver and the EQ can be used together without the preamp.

The receiver can also be used all by itself.

Maybe the original owner didn't like the built preamp in the receiver and was going for a different sound with this set up.

Sure thing! To add to your point century Tek, the equipment I picked up included a nice Optonica tuner as well. There was so much other awesome audio and recording equipment this guy had, but I came back on the second day of the sale hoping everything would still be there when it was 50% off. But most was gone. I was surprised all this was still there. Picked up a small Canton subwoofer as well.

So let's say I had room in my cabinet and wanted to roll with everything-- the preamp, receiver, and EQ. I would link:
- output on preamp to main in on receiver
-the tape rec/play on the EQ to the tape rec/play on the preamp
-my turntable to the phono input on the preamp
-cd player to the aux on the preamp
-speakers to receiver
The rear of the Optonica has 'fixed' and 'variable' outputs---ive never seen these. Which one would I connect to the tuner input on the preamp?

Is there anything I'm missing or should be conscious of?

I like that receiver. I had a DA-R11 and it was a great performing unit. Mine was 35wpc. I believe yours is 60 IIRC. I think Mitsubishi put out some really good under rated stuff.

Still, Canton makes great stuff, from Germany so it's often difficult to find much info on their speakers.

Yeah I never heard of them--granted I'm no subwoofer aficionado--but I saw 'made in Germany' so thought I couldn't be too bad. You're right, I can't find much of anything as far as information on the line.

For instance, there are a plethora of small speakers similar to the Realistic Minimus 7, I've had a few. I currently have a dozen or so Minimus 7's including the wood version, but Canton's Plus-S is what the Realistic speaker was striving to be.



With the partnering Plus C.


These are the real Mohagany veneered version, the quality of the cabinets is evident.

I picked up a P30 preamp a few years ago and have been on the lookout for a Mitsu DA-A30 amplifier since. That pre has a lot of nice features. The speaker selector won't work without the special jumper to the A30 amp.

You should look for any power amp to go with your separates and use the receiver in the bedroom or garage.
