Hello everyone. thought I would introduce myself. I have been a Pioneer fan boy for many years. Purchased an SX-3700 based system back in 1980 (still works great). Always wanted to move up the food chain but could never justify the money. A friend gave me an SX-535 had to eventually replace a couple transistors in it. It is in my garage and is on 24/7. Just cleaned the controls as it was getting noisy. Sounds great now.
Now that I am older and money isn't as much of an issue the newer receivers are kind of boring. I thought I would try to get some of the old Pioneer TOL receivers and start a new hobby. I was in Ottawa visiting family and saw a SX-1010 for sale. Had a look and listen ( should have looked and listened more!). Spent too much and brought it home. When I tried it at home I noticed it wasn't sounding the best so I thought I would start by cleaning the controls. When I took the cover off it was clear it had been worked on and been in a smokers house at one time. After cleaning the controls I checked the voltage as described in manual on power amps. The right side was fine but left was all over the place. Also noticed power supply on bottom looks very black. So I'm going to eventually post some questions I'm sure. For now ill see what i can glean from other posts and dig into it some more myself. Hopefully my new hobby is rewarding and fun. Merry Christmas!
