Vintage Polk / Infinity Comparisons

Owning only the SM 125 of Infinity but do have experience w/ Polks I really like my early Monitor 7s w/ new x-overs and binding posts w/ still the original Peerless tweeters which are smooth. Now another animal entirely are the SDA 2Bs. When positioned just right w/ certain mods done like the RDO -194s for instance then you have great imaging and sound stage, but and there are rules to any SDA model and if you don't have the logistics go for the Infinitys. Also w/ all SDAs you need a common ground amp w/ good power 150/200wpc and high current and must be bonded w/ the i/c cable.

I listened to Rush's "Moving Pictures" tonight, and the Infinity's kept up the pace; plus, when you can hear the different voicing of Neil Peart's tom drums on playback, you know you have a good speaker.

So, regarding the midrange and tweeter settings on the back, where do you have yours set?

I haven't heard nearly as many speakers as you guys probably have, so it's all relative.

I think we all get accustomed to the size of our speakers, but if you really look at them fresh like a new visitor to your house, a four-foot speaker will raise some eyebrows.

I like that first statement. I've heard a good number of speakers but interestingly, not many Polk and no Infinity speakers have been in my house. Small polks, too. That made this thread an interesting read as I know about the bigger speakers from these companies but just don't know their sound.

Then we get to the comment about the size of the speakers. Recently installed (this year) speakers on the main rig are only 47.3" tall and a comfortable 11.5" wide. They really opened up that end of the room. Yes, maybe that missing 0.7" keeping them shorter than your 4-foot comment makes all the difference in the world. Nope, I have some big speakers those almost 4-footers have nudged aside since they are newer to me.
