This quad system is from the original owner, my friends Aunt.
I’ll pick it up tomorrow.
Pioneer GX 949 and four JBL Century L100s. Was told the grills are there as well.
Here’s a few pics, I’ll post more once I have it home.
I’m very excited and curious how it sounds.
Cheers, Glenn

Who would that be?

Thanks, I remember that thread and all those cats on it lol.

I have the system home. The JBLs are the “a”, each pair close serial numbers.
The Pioneer got great reviews back in the day.
I did a quick
Power up, came out of protection, all function lights work, even pulled in a FM station. Cabinet is almost perfect, face plate same.
Next is testing the speakers! IMG_4115.jpegIMG_4113.jpegIMG_4112.jpegIMG_4111.jpegIMG_4110.jpegIMG_4109.jpegIMG_4108.jpegIMG_4107.jpegIMG_4106.jpegIMG_4105.jpeg

Wow, just excellent. I would get that receiver checked out with a clean bill of health, refinish the speakers to match and enjoy for a while. That setup is for sure more than one persons absolute grail. I played around with a Pioneer quad receiver (QX??) for a bit with 4 Polk Monitor 10’s and KLH 17’s. While I had no quad source, the Matrix setting did a decent job of simulation that I found interesting. My daughter ended up with the receiver running a pair of NLA’s (Good Dad Award).

Yes L100A, early ones, have the correct foilcal for the early A, correct white grill pegs, should also have the early round metal push-spring binding posts on the back. Nice.

So, a mixed report.

First, I tested the speakers, hooked up to the JVC AX-1010, and all sound fabulous! Frankly, I was very surprised at how good they sounded, and I liked them, a lot!
The presence and Brilliance settings are very helpful tailoring the sound, definitely helped with the high end for my ears.
Bass was deep and tight. The cabs overall are very good, will need some light sanding in a few spots, and oil applied. The waffle grills are gone, but the frames are very good.

The receiver has some noise issues, a modulating sound, not steady static noise, mostly the right channel. It stays the same regardless of volume setting.
It played music, and I can see this sounded very good in its past. I’ll open it up, clean out dust, Deoxit everything I can, and see if this helps, though I’m thinking not.
