Vintage Setup - Speaker Issues w/ aux(iphone)

I am using speakers(JBL L60T) and centrex by pioneer receiver. I have virtually no issues with my system when using my TT or when plugging my aux chord into my computer.

However, when i plug my iphone in to stream music, I immediately hear a crackling/popping sound in one or both of my speakers. This sound can start as quickly as when i plug in my phone, before I even hit play on the music. It can be intermittent and will come and go.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this can be and/or a potential solution?

If the phone is too close to the receiver, it could be causing interference because of the WiFi signal. Older receivers and modern phones sometimes need a little separation to alleviate interference issues. At least this has been my finding.

Or, most likely, you haven't got the cable inserted all the way.

It's pretty common for the headphone jacks to make noise due to poor connection. Try spinning the plug around inside the jack and see if it makes noise while you do it. Not sure how you would fix it, other than replace the jack, and/or cable.

Are you sure the cable is fully inserted into the iphone jack? Do you have a case on the phone that may prevent this from happening? Had that problem with my daughter's old iphone and headphones.

I have this issue as well when playing from my iPhone to my Marantz 2285B via AUX. It happens when the phone goes into lock and intermittently during play if some other functions are happening (like pressing the home button). Sometimes I am unable to determine the cause as well.

Does your device have a 3.5mm jack or a lightening port? I know 3.5mm can be sensitive in any device but my theory is that the lightening port is especially so since it is basically a modified USB that is pushed into an audio output role for driving headphones and auxiliary playback. There’s so much going on through that small all-in-one port that it causes interference that register as pops and crackles when used as a source.

I don’t have a good solution right now but am working on it. This is my office/vinyl system and I planned on adding a DAC for digital sources. If I hook up the iPhone via lightning to USB on the DAC, I wonder if that will eliminate the popping since it is a purely digital signal.
