Vintage Speakers for Tehnics SA5170

[Impact]

Picked up a failing Tehnics SA5170 at goodwill for a steal recently. Cleaned it out and replaced some caps and now its sounding great. Only issue is I don't have a lower wattage set of speakers to pair up with this thing.

Any suggestions of some vintage options that would sound nice for a smaller office space but won't cost me a fortune? I don't want to put a ton of money into this smaller system. I understand this thing won't rock the house.


Specs of the SA5170 for those not familiar:

Power output: 25 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo)

Frequency response: 7Hz to 50kHz

Total harmonic distortion: 0.5%

Input sensitivity: 2.5mV (MM), 150mV (line)

Maybe look for some speakers with a high-ish efficiency rating. Like 90+. The fact your Tecnics has a 4 ohm rating is good.
Depending on the size of your room, your style of music, bass and loudness settings, and preferred volume levels you may be able be happy with other speakers.
Speaker ratings are suggestions, not absolutes. You will not automatically blow up a pair of 25 watt speakers if you use a 26 watt receiver or amp. Or a 50 watt. Or a 100 watts. Just use your head. And your ears.
Common sense and volume restraint play a part, and listening for distortion or the receiver running hot are all warning signs to turn it down.

Going to start looking at high efficiency speakers as it makes sense for this little system. Greatly appreciate all your advice! I have a nice set of Marantz Imperial 6s I tested this out on quick when I cleaned it up. It was struggling to power them at a normal listening volume so I decided id be smart to start looking for something a bit lower wattage.

Are you looking for vintage or new speakers?
Vintage will limit you to what is available locally, unless you pay for having some shipped from another area, and shipping will add to the total cost.
Some markets/areas have more available used gear than others. Being in WI there might be some speakers made in Canada available. Some of those smaller out of business companies made some pretty good speakers using resources from the CA gov't.
Buying new would give you a warranty, a possible return window if you don't like them ( 30 or 45 days depending on the company) and shipping might be included.
Sounds like you have a good idea what would work and the limitations involved so that's a good start.
