Thanks for this recommendation. I've been wanting to have my CR-1020 restored. And even though his company is a couple thousand miles from here, his website/pics suggests he would be worth the shipping costs.

Hey theo, I too am searching for a tech. What did you have serviced by Casper? How thorough of a job did he do? Thanks.
I dropped my stuff off on Sat and it was done on Mon. I had a Technics turntable repaired and it was pretty intensive, the cueing arm was broke, and I had the inside of my SX 780 cleaned, lamps replaced and the tuner adjusted. Works great and he spent an hour with me explaining what he did the ups and downs of each piece of gear. At this point I would say it was the best experience I have had in a while. I highly recommend!

Thank you so much. My Pioneer Sx 636 which I bought new in Dec. of '76 recently started crackling in the left channel on all input functions tuner,phono tape ect.. I found this thread and gave Casper at Stereo Rehab a call expecting the usual repair shop headaches. I am very much a DIY cheapskate skeptic, but I love my 636 and plan on keeping it forever. That said I don't mind paying a little more for top quality work. I must say Casper explained everything he planned to do for the repair, why he was doing it, and how long it would take right up front. Turns out he has fixed hundreds of these series Pioneers. He fixed the bad left channel amp transistors and changed out the right ones as well. He went over the whole unit to make sure it was working to specs. He even changed out the red stereo and dial indicator lamps that had been burned out for 30 years. All work was completed on time and as promised and most importantly the first time with no hassle. This receiver has been working flawlessly for over two months now, no complaints.

Here's what was done with a one year warrantee including the lamps.
Pioneer SX-636 (#2470S): service/full alignment; left channel differential pair replaced with matched batch/h Fe,right channel pair also replaced for equality; scale indicator
lamp replaced; "stereo" illumination replaced; knob caps re-secured; every switch and user adjustable pot cleaned and rinsed (including bias pots on output card), balance
control shaft oiled; sprung reduction gear assembly on tuning capacitor re-set for correct pre-load (excessive play);tuning capacitor shaft brushes surfaced and shaft oiled;
reduction gear assy oiled; all pulleys oiled; tuning knob internal shaft removed, chucked/spun/polished and cleaned/oiled, run-out set; friction surface of indicator oiled;
dial aligned physically to reference of mechanical left stop (0) with tuning capacitor fully closed; front end R.F. stageoscillator aligned to be linear with tuned frequency for AM
and FM; I.F. stages peaked; discriminator transformer lower slug aligned; MPX decoder aligned for proper stereo delivery and suppression of pilot; output stage biased at
10kHz into 4 at 1w and all crossover notch eliminated. All functions verified operating as designed including phono. Original components returned with unit. 162.46
1 year warranty on unit including new illumination
