Vintage Wharfdale Speakers

Hi,
Just picked up a set of heavy, vintage Wharfdale speakers, in external excellent condition for $10 from a estate sale.

Need to know the quality or uniqueness of these speakers and guidance to configure it with my recently bought Onkyo 5.1 channel AV reciver.
Ps. Presently the AV receiver is mated with a home theatre system and I plan to use the Wharfdales purely for audio, while keeping the home theatre connected.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, my AV receiver is Denon, AVR-S510BT, 5.2ch, 140W.

Ya, Welcome to AK. Those do look like W60's. Looking at the back of your receiver, I would hook up the Wharfedale's to the 'Front' speaker terminals. If you already have those in use, as well as all the others, I suggest you get another receiver to be used strictly for Hi-Fi. Others that are much smarter than I will probably be by to help guide you.
I guess that you could always get a speaker selector and that way you could switch between the front pair of speakers you already have and the Wharfedales.:dunno: Play your surround system when you want and then go into stereo mode and play the 'dales. It would be cheaper and take up very little space.

There were numbers versions of the W60.
Are they ported?
Please post a pic without the grills in place.

The finish looks very nice on them.

For the most part they can hold their own. They were built to last. My 12" Wharfes have been "trucking" since the late 70's with no problems, and they've been ridden hard!

After much playing however, you may end up with the "stiff upper lip", righto?

Thanks, yes the build quality is nothing less than a tank and they weigh so too.
The 12" must be throwing out some good base, I presume.
No "stiff upper lip" haaahaa.

The front mesh is fixed and not detachable, it opens at the rear, wood screws. The may be ported, saw a similar pic on the web.
Will post pic when I open it soon.

Great.
I have the W60E series (3-way), which are sealed cabinets, and have grills that are easily removable.
Drivers remove from the front.
That's my only data point.
The crossbar on my grills are of constant cross-sectional shape:

I like these speakers. Very nice tight bass response.

These are sealed from the front, speaker is fixed/openable by nut and bolt from rear.
