'Vintagish' Audio Setup

Digital? Nah thanks
Now just to preface this, I know this setup is pretty pathetic at the moment, but i truly plan to upgrade everything very soon. But starting out, I've got an old BIC 20Z Turntable, which in itself is a pretty crappy table, but with the Shure stylus I have installed it sound incredible. (Especially with 180's) Moving down, I have an old Panasonic DVD/CD player, which as you may guess is only really used for CD's. It sounds really great and works perfect with the Kenwood Receiver. And Finally, I've got my Kenwood KR-5200 receiver from about 1973. It's not the best, even from it's time, but it sounds really good, and powers my setup pretty well. Now moving up onto the desk you'll see that i've got my PC setup there, (custom built), and some Sony speakers, which belong to a really crappy little setup, but when powered through the Kenwood, they sound downright incredible. And then of course, without this our setups are virtually worthless, you'll see my CD and Vinyl collections. Most of my vinyls are original presses of the albums, as well as a few new presses of new albums, like Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, and Daft Punk's RAM, and Imagine Dragons - Night Visions. And then I've got a few good CD's.

Just use those with my computer. Normally run music off of my tablet using Spotify Premium, Vinyls, or CD's, which are hooked into the receiver

I like your receiver! If you like thrift shopping, keep your eyes out for a nice pair of bookshelf speakers. I started out with a small pair of JVC speakers from a cheapy system that I thought sounded great... They actually weren't bad. But then I found a pair of small Infinity's and they made a pretty big difference.

If you are looking for the most improvement for the least $, the best bet is speakers....

Look for the most inexpensive set of Infinity's you can find with the Emit tweet.......your kenwood will flat out astound you.

If you need to go a bit lower priced, I see a set of Infinity RS 4001 currently available on Ebay for around $105 with shipping.......theirs is not the Emit tweet, but the Polysherite tweet in these is the next best thing, in my experience, and the Poly mid makes a drum sound like a.......well, a DRUM!!

They are a 3-way accoustic suspension speaker that is very smooth.

I run a set of these in the bedroom, through a 30wpc vintage Akai receiver, and I think you would be extremely pleased with the sound.

Listening to your fine vintage kenwood receiver through a set of plastic Sony speakers is a bit like running your Coke through a reverse osmosis unit....your opinion of your receiver will change more than you can imagine when paired with decent speakers.

Good luck!!

Everyone starts somewhere! Looks like you've got a solid receiver, so I agree with airplanedriv - speakers could be your next area to upgrade.

All in all, if it sounds good to you, that's what counts!

Thanks everyone for the astounding feedback! I've been having my eyes on a pair of paradigm bookshelves, great size, and sound great. They're used for 150 at a local sound shop. But I love Infinity! I'll check those out

Infinity Qe's are a really cheap way to get EMIT sounds. I had mine paired with a Kenwood KR-7600 once and that combo sounded GREAT. They also have rubber surrounds so no monkeying with rotten foam.

What kind of Paradigms? I recently saw some Paradigm Monitor Titans v5 go for about $150 plus shipping on the Bay. Paradigms are great and you won't be disappointed with them.

Be patient and wait for a good deal. BTW I do agree with everyone else that speakers should be your next upgrade. That is a sweet looking Kenwood.
