Playing again as there was a disturbance in the force the other night and didn't get to complete it. There's a proper thunderstorm going on AT LAST in the UK after about 4 months without really a drop of rain, perfect afternoon for some tunes!
And I'm trying a workaround, was having issues with a new headphone amp where the output to the headphones was just really flatlined, all the lower end and top end stripped out. I was actually thinking the headphones may have blown, but have finally had some time to do a proper bit of troubleshooting with spare cables for headphone and phono and now my third headphone amp with the same issue. Turns out it's the damn tape out on the PrimaLuna, something very wrong there, will have to get it looked at. For now, got some Audioquest solid RCA splitters so have dual output direct from the phone pre-amp direct through the headphone amp. And BLAMO, THIS is how good these headphones should sound!!!! How very stunning! The bass on these I just had no idea heaphones were capable of this kind of tactile feel, it's absolutely sublime. These headphones aren't known for their soundstage performance or for their high end shine, but as my experience has always been far lower tier headphones, they still sound incredible in that regard, can only imagine what something like a Senni HD800s sounds like related to that.
