Emerson Lake and Palmer - Pictures At An Exhibition

Cotillion ELP 66666 (1972)

I'm particularly fond of this piece of music. I have at least one recording of it in the original piano solo version, probably half a dozen different recordings of it as an orchestral transcription, mostly the Ravel orchestration, but one of Stokowski conducting his own orchestral setting of it, a transcription for guitar that I played a couple of weeks ago, and this silly but most entertaining transmogrification of Mussorgsky's music. Even better is the fact that my copy is in far better condition than I remembered from its last spin. :music:

described as "power pop" they do remind me a bit of Nick Lowe -- which is a good thing in my book.

Gil Scott-Heron - The First Minute Of A New Day

free-jazz / r&b with poetry, Nice playing, really well produced with the instruments distinct and floating free in the soundstage, but the vocals are an acquired taste. This is his second LP w/ Brian Jackson and includes Winter In America.
