Vinyl Purchasing

Could you please list a couple of your favorite, most dependable, internet websites for purchasing new record albums on line.

As a newbie to records, how do I go about determing top quality of new albums?
Is weight a key variable?
Are there certain album brands to seek out and to avoid?

Thanks So Much!!!
Matt

I use ElusiveDisc (they accept paypal), sometimes Acousticsounds, and a good one here on AK has a banner: Soundstage Direct.

regarding weight, there is the trend of most reissues being 180g-200g...altgough there are also regular weight. I find the thin LP's sound just as good...I say, if the title is what u want, doesnt matter how heavy the LP is.

There's a good place here in NJ that will probably take any order you have at a good price. It's called "Jack's Music Shop" and it's in Red Bank, NJ. They have a website but you'd probably be better off calling them. Look them up. :thmbsp:

I agree on Soundstage Direct ... service is great and shipping is fast and reasonable. They package things well.

If you are a Barnes & Noble customer with one of their discount cards, you might look at the http://www.bn.com site as they are now showing vinyl on there and the selection is not nearly as good as on Soundstage Direct but you can use your discount and get free shipping on orders over $25. I think the same goes for Amazon without, of course, the discount deal. I also get regular discount coupons from Barnes & Noble that gives me an even better deal sometimes.

I also really like the folks at this website: Adam & Eve Records. They offer great prices on used vinyl--LPs and 45s as well as 78s. Selection is catch-as-catch-can, obviously, but the guy is great to do business with and he does accept PayPal and ships quickly and packs things in an ingenious way that does a good job of getting the records here safely. I wouldn't have thought of it but I have to say it works.

May depend on how 'mainstream' your tastes are. I just got in the mail yesterday from Amazon.com the LP version of Of Montreal's "Hissing Fauna," so check with them too.

[completely off topic--they really made the holes in those two lp's small; I had to force them onto my turntable with more force than I would have liked. But no warps, no scratches, excellent sound quality]
