least likely to succeed
went to the two places i go and got lucky for the first time in awhile. aside for some so-so jackets all vinyl is vg-nm. twenty bucks and change.

steely dan - 'can't buy a thrill', 'katy lied', 'countdown to ecstasy' - all abc records
pink floyd - 'dsotm' harvest label, 'wish you were here' later pressing
rolling stones - 'let it bleed', 'get yer ya-ya's out', london - 'sticky fingers' - atco records
van halen - 'diver down' sealed, 'women and children first' with poster
the cars - 'heartbeat city' sealed
springsteen - 'nebraska'

not too bad imo. :thmbsp:

I can only speak to the Steeley, Floyd and Springsteen selections - but if they clean up well and play pretty much noiseless - you've made quite a score. Those LP's could easily fetch over $50 in total on the 'Bay in NM condition, maybe even a few dollars more.

I was happy today I bought 2 boxes of 45's and 78's at an estate sale found a mint copy of hey jude from the beatles and a copy of indian giver, great songs theres more in the box but those are my fav right now. nice pink floyd i think I only have 2 floyd albums in the closet and both the same, would have love to find that rolling stones! I found a moody blues in a lot last weekend the nights in white satin one.

Ha! I went to my favorite store on Tuesday (the town dump) and someone was tossing 100+ albums. Some where trash-classics like the K-Tel version of accordion songs of the lower amazon jungle but I did pull out about 40 jazz, blues and rock pieces. There were some early recordings from the Newport Jazz Festival that while scratchy were quite listenable and very interesting time capsules. There were some Led Zep, Foreigner, Billy Joel and the like in there.
I've been cleaning them in the sink (don't want my new cartridge to catch any diseases).

Then I went to a local high end stereo shop yesterday to look at their used gear and they had some high quality / brand new LPs for sale cheap. They guy said, "oh, you don't want those - they're dbx encoded". Hey, I've got a dbx 224 that has the circuitry for that! Big score on some extremely nice sounding stuff.

i had the 'aja' abc from before, i think that one sounds the best overall, but 'can't buy a thrill' sounds great too, 'do it again' etc...

When I decided to get back into vinyl the first two records I bought were Brothers in Arms by Dire Straights, the other one was Aja by Steeley Dan abc.

They both sound magnificent and in A1 condition.

I picked them up for a "song" excuse the pun.

That was a few months ago, now I have nearly 100 lp's and growing rapidly.

I go to Half Price Books, record stores, GW/thrift stores etc and find some real bargains. Hunting for them is half the fun.

Good luck to you, it's a wonderfully rewarding habit to have.:music:
