Vinyl Warp

Is it normal for most vinyl records to have a slight amount of warp? When I mean slight, eyes looking across the record horizontally detecting a slight wobble.

I've just started buying records, I only have four so far and they all have a bit of a wobble, some worse than others. I've stored them well and the turntable platter isn't warped.

The perfectly flat record is probably an impossibility. In my experience, there's at least a bit of "wobble" or warp in almost every pressing. My standard is that the record is reasonably "flat" and plays without any issues (wow and flutter, skipping, etc.). If it does have issues, I return it to the store and get a better copy.

Most of my old records are perfect or near perfect. For some reason, virtually every new record I own is at least slightly warped. The exceptions are the Slayer boxed set and the Grateful dead boxed set.

Same here. My Decca Beethovens Concerto No.5 is basically flat, you have to look very hard to notice any movement when playing; where as my Interpol record is basically warped. Anyways, thanks for input.

I forgot I left a 'bunch' of records laying flat on the bed a couple days ago. Got em upright as we speak!

Record stores always have a huge pile of records at a 70deg angle. No wonder so many are warped. I like being able to pick up the occasional release at the local Newbury Comics while at the mall, but it's a crapshoot the way they're stored.

Keep your records as upright as possible, in small enough groups with solid, anchored, dividers so if they do lean, there's not much mass behind warping your records.

As a bonus, storing your records properly will go a long way to correcting edge warps over time.
