Vinyl warping

When I ran a non-suspended table my record weight was an old glass power line insulator with a cut down spray paint cap stuffed into the bottom. I drilled a hole in the cap and that was my weight. If you want a clamp it gets a little more complicated but weights just aren't hard. I could make a better one now with better tooling and experience but I knocked that together as a broke teenager in not very much time.

I've had two types of warped records - Ones that were ugly but sounded fine, and ones that caused skips of had audible swishes/thumps. I never bothered messing with the first kind. For the second kind, I have flattened them using glass and low temp ovens. They looked better but you could still hear the area where the grooves got distorted. YMMV.

Only one of mine is major enough to affect playback and trying to ship the all back to the store across the country for exchange would be a pain, so I think you’re right: I’ll just enjoy them and try not to be OCD about the visuals. After all, a lot of my vintage records have slight warps anyway and they sound fine too. I’ve found that it’s rare for any of my records, new or used, to be absolutely perfectly flat all the way through - although 180 gram vinyl tends to be the flattest.

I've had plenty of records laying flat and not had them turn into Pringles in that amount of time. There are probably a couple laying on my subwoofer at home right now. I got some records from my aunt years ago. They were stacked on the top shelf in a closet, laying flat, and had been for easily a decade. Probably 8" or so thick stack if I had to guess. None of them were warped in any amount worth talking about, but I don't know that I pulled the very top one off the stack either.

no its not the preferred way to stack them but they don't get immediately ruined either.
