So, I have been refurbishing a Motorola SK28M Stereo Console. All was going well, until I tried to replace the Cartridge. The manual states the Motorola Part number is 59K649704, but the player has stamped - 59k649492. Not sure if that makes a difference.
I replaced some caps in the Amp and pre-amp, and the unit powered up and sounded quiet as a mouse. When I turned the player on, no problems. When I put the Needle (New) on the record, I got a low, but noticeable hum. The hum would only happen when I put the needle on the record and played it. Since the needle was new, I assumed I needed a new cartridge.
Turntable Needles recommended a Sonotone 8T Series Type Ceramic Record Player Pickup | aka Astatic 754. The unusual thing about this cartridge is that it has 3 prongs and not 4 prongs.

Wires feeding the cartridge are colored Red (Prong 1) Green, White (Prong 2), Black, but Green and Black have been merged to the 3rd prong.
Can I use a 4 pronged cartridge by separating the Green/Black? Any advise would be appreciated.
