I am playing "catch up" on this thread....
The one thing that would answer the FINAL question would be to have the CSN&Y cleaned on a VPI. It appears that the SC did just as good a job as the VPI on one LP. Right? The big difference was the CSN&Y. Right.... Well maybe a final chapter, end, to this "shoot out" would be to listen to the CSN&Y and then run it through a VPI to see if there is a final difference. It may be that the vinyl has crud imbedded into it and NOTHING will get it out... I say one time through the VPI and one last evaluation...
