VPI adjustment help

filament

New Member
Hello, I just bought a used VPI Prime Scout to replace my HW-19. It has the JMW Memorial tonearm. I am setting it up and installing one of my cartridges. It is supposed to have a JMW Memorial tonearm alignment jig for cartridge alignment. Of course it doesn't. I do have the MOFI GEO-DISC phono cartridge alignment tool. Will that be sufficient, or should I order the correct tool from VPI?
Thanks.

That will do the trick. The specifications suggest that the turntable was designed with Löfgren B in mind. The Geodisc will give you a Baerwald/Löfgren A alignment, but that should be well within reach. As Löfgren A and Löfgren B use the same linear offset, the cartridge should be squared in the headshell with either geometry.

Great! Thank you for the info.

I have used the geo-disc and the original VPI jig for my classic 4. Both give slightly different results as to where the distortion on the LP is but I have received satisfactory results with each.

If it was bought new from a dealer, the dealer should be able to contact VPI for you, and get you this tool that you say was supposed to be included with the Table.

The Geodisc should work and give you decent alignment. Concentrate on the alignment of the Cantilever itself, you might need a Jeweler's Loupe or Magnifying Glass to aid seeing such.
