Vpi hw-16

i guess I just bought a new old stock vpi hw-16 with wood grain in original box. I think I did ok on it but I have a few questions. I believe the vacuum wand is attached to the lid. Can new Wands be ordered or will I eventually have to buy the 16 to 16.5 conversion kit? Where does the fluid drain? The 16.5 has a drain tube. Is the 16 as solid a machine as the newer model (I know the upgrades make the newer model better but the price was much better on the older model

Had one of those back n the 80's, I believe the used fluid just sits inside the machine and evaporates, so don't clean too many records at once. I remember my machine started to de-laminate at the bottom of the box from moisture. You could call VPI but don't think it is retro fit-able with a new wand but you may be able to buy new felt pads to replace the ones on your machine once they ware out.

You really need the conversion kit, especially if it includes a reservoir for the spent record cleaning fluid. Otherwise, the fluid just sits inside the machine on contact with MDF, which is not good.

You can order replacement vacuum tubes from numerous dealers. Disc Doctor replacement felt strips are a perfect fit if you want to go that route. They are available from Needledoctor (http://www.needledoctor.com/Disc-Doctor-Vacuum-Tube-Replacement-Strips). Acoustic Sounds and Elusive Disc also have them.
