VPI To Market A Direct Drive Turntable

I agree with Majick.

So ok...MF didn't like the styling or the instruction manual. Fine.

What's more important to me is how the table SOUNDS.

MF can be a bit obnoxious, and he tends to not take too kindly to those who disagree with him.
 
Sure I understand what you guys are saying, it is all about how it sounds but think if you bought a $30,000 would you want to be easily mistaken for a $3,000 turntable? I would think if you are spending that kind of coin you would want it to stand out from it's much less expensive little brother.

Either way that's Fremer's opinions, I am more surprised of his criticisms of his buddy Harry's new table then anything.
 
And please let me state I do like the classic styling, I think it is a nice looking table I just think the people who play at the $30,000 turntable level would expect a little more extravagance.
 
Am thinking the price is on the high side when the new DD TT from AZ (forgotten the name) is selling in the $10-12K range. Think I'll wait for the automated version.
 
My impression of the Classic Direct appearance is understated elegance, the opposite of the extravagant bling towers climbing to the sky. What counts is the sound/performance and by the looks of the reviews it meets the goal coming darn close to tables costing many times more.
 
Unless these things sell millions of units and then plummet in value on the second-hand market in 10 years time, I've a feeling that the formula of Supply and Demand vs my income, will work to keep a Classic Direct out of any system I own.

I've seen in my own system just how much more can be wrung from acknowledged great Direct Drives. I'm convinced that many great turntables, not only Direct Drive, are performing at little more than 50% of what they could ultimately achieve. Especially but not exclusively, the unsuspended ones. It has shocked me (I mean it) how much lays uncovered in those record grooves.
