VSX D1S No Sound Output

Hello,
I am new to the Audiokarma site but like what I have seen so far. I have 2 Pioneer receivers that ! love, my first is a VSX D608 and the 2nd is a VSX D1S (my favorite) with a problem with the problem with no sound output in any mode. I can see the output on the meters but nothing to the speakers. I had the D1S connected to a pair of Bose 401's which are ok, I also have a pair of JBL L88's that I was going to pair with the D1S until I just developed this problem. I also have a pair of Vintage ESS Speakers AMT-1B that I am in the process refinishing and re-foaming that I would like to pair it with my D1S but need to figure out what is wrong. Any ideas as to the problem?

Thank You

Are you getting absolute silence or minor amounts of hum or noise? If you have nothing, check the power supply and any fuses that may exist for either power or speakers. If you have any noise, use some contact cleaner on the function switch that selects what input is in use.

Going to move this to the Pioneer forum. Not radio related for the tuner forum

IIRC, the DS1 has pre-main interconnects. If you get sound from the amp, the problem is in the preamp. There are tons of micro-switches that can cause cutout, if you are lucky. If you are unlucky, it is an IC that has opened. Hope you get it sorted, the DS1 was a favorite.

Absolute silence in both direct mode and normal

if the display output bars are moving then I believe on the D1S that the preamp is working. You'll need to isolate the pre amp from the amp by yanking the jumpers and outputting the pre-amp signal to another amplifier to see if there is sound. If there is then there may be a problem with the power amplifier side of the receiver. Stupid question but have you selected either speaker A or speaker B?

I have a D1S and ESS AMT-1Bs as well and it is a decent match! Nice receiver and my favourite BPC receiver b/c it was actually built decently with aluminum components and not cheap plastic switches.

Worth fixing in my opinion.

Problem with the D1S is there is no access to the power supply boards and another underneath. Its costly to repair because a tech needs to basically dissemble the whole unit to get to those boards. ( ask me how i know!) Sucks because it really was the last good "monster" pioneer.

Lol funny you mention that! I had to repair both my D1S receivers (sold one to my brother two years ago) and they both had a him. His being much worse - required new power supply caps. Although taking it apart really sucked that it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I argue the fluoroscan line was probably just as bad if not worse in some cases.

Shame that there seems to be not much love for the pretty D1S.

I finally took the receiver to a local guy who is highly recommended 6 weeks ago and I am still waiting, he replaced a few resistor/caps, then found one was leaking? and needed another part that was hard to find? (IC PA0045 was the part) so keeping my fingers crossed he come through soon,

I also have one whose tuner section is not working..what could possibly be wrong?
Am new to the site and I like what I read from the forum.

Hey everyone. I just got a vsx d1s too off Ebay. Got it sll hooked up today hoping to hear some sweet jams. No sound either. Im pissed to say the least. Direct mode or not its not producing any noise of any kind. Yes mute is off. Speaker a is on. Im lost. Guy swore it was working. Either im doing something wrong which I dont believe or he never hooked up speakers to it. His pictures show meters jumping and all but I can get that too. Phono. Cd. Tuner. Dead. I need to take a break from buying cause I am not having any luck recently. Like the vsx 95 I bought. Hum in speakers. I sent it back. People think it works cause it lights up. I dont believe they really do know what they are doinf
