I’m interested in moving into the tube world. I was going to start with the Schiit Freya but it looks like the have a supply issue. An alternative path is a VTA ST-120 and perhaps an Elekit TU-8500. Does the community have impressions of how these would combine? The would be used with Klipsch Forte III’s

I give the VTA-120 my Highest recommendation! I built one and have never regretted the purchase. Biggest bang for the buck! You would have to spend 4-5X more to better it if at all!

The VTA ST-120 has 60W/ch. Why do you need that much power with a speaker that's rated 99db/w/m?

Yeah I know. Really for future planning. Other setups with less efficient speakers. Never could find the efficiency of my KLH model 23s or the model 5s I want to get. I know how I’ll get, always switching things out.

What preamp do you like for this? Another member pointed me to the PAS models.

I did have a BAT VK-30 preamp with this and that combo was great together. Sold the BAT due to needing the cash when I was out of work for a while. Right now I have a Mitsubishi DA-P20 that I'm using temporary while I'm working on finishing my Transcendent Sound Masterpiece preamp build. Sounds good with the Mitsubishi preamp too. Should sound awesome with the Masterpiece preamp when I done here in a few weeks.

I'm using the VTA-120 with some Clearfield Continentals by Counterpoint. These are 87db and the VTA-120 has no issues pushing those speakers, nice deep/wide sound stage. I'm running all Gold Lion reissue tubes (12AU7's and KT88's) and sounds wonderful!
