VTV Ultra-Tone Silvered Foil in Paper and Oil High Performance Capacitors

Well, you're paying for a precious metal used in a large portion of the construction in these capacitors.

Silver plates, silver leads, silver sputtered aluminum foil. Also uses a proven and highly refined mineral oil as the insulator (in conjunction with the kraft paper)

Much less costly than other mfg's similar designs.

could you point me to the otheres? jensens? or what?

give me Solens and Orange Drops any day! *shakes fist* I'd build an amp or two for a cost of a couple of those capacitors!

I originally tried Solen capacitors in my Dynaco ST-70. At the suggestion of Kevin Kennedy who designed the replacement circuit board in my amplifier he suggested I try the modest Sequa oil caps sold by Angela. At only $5 or $6 each they are not expensive and they sounded much better than the Solen caps I had soldered in my board myself originally. I do agree that much of the boutique capacitor cost is over the top. The Sequa capacitors were cheap thrills but they are a lot bigger as most all these type of caps are to work with. If I were to recap any of my vintage gear I would also seriously consider the 716P series orange drops. John

Solens (in general) seem to have a bit of a high-end grit to them... I've used them though and sometimes put a small oil bypass. I really like MIT RTXs which used to seem hideously expensive but are now a bargain compared to the latest boutique caps.

Jensen Silver Foil

Audio Note Silver Foil

However, the Mundorf M-Cap Supreme (Silver/Oil) is also a good boutique cap choice, but no solid silver lead-outs to my knowledge. More affordable than the VTV UltraTone (only about 1/3 the price).

Those look like Jensen or Audio Note PIO's with the VTV label stuck on. Buy the Jensens and save bucks. Heck I suspect the Audio Notes are made by Jensen also.

I believe I saw somewhere that yes the Audionotes are Jensens.

I like to use the paper in oil caps as well, but the prices are to rich for
me so using a good poly with a pio bypass seems to work pretty well.:D

From the Angela Instruments site:

All of the ANGELA and Audio Note paper in oil signal capacitors we sell are manufactured in Denmark by Jensen. Please note that Jensen capacitors branded "ANGELA", "Jensen" or "AUDIO NOTE" are identical in every way, except for the superficial exterior markings.
I'm going to try the Angela copper foil PIO caps in my project once all the parts arrive...

I recapped my (new to me) Pilot 245A with 716P orange drops, and I really like the way it sounds.

The VTV UltraTone caps are half the cost of the Jensens. Some values are actually much less than half.

However, with that said, I'll stick to the CDE WMF and Mallory PVC series film and foil polyesters for now. Or, in a pinch, Illinois Capacitor.

The silver/oil caps are simply much too inordinately priced for me.

Now, if some generous individual or business people wish to give me some of these for real-time testing under actual conditions in my amp, that would be fine. Four pieces of .1µF-600VDC should do it.
