This recent experience of mine that`s related to power supply noise in this thread, in my case my a WAV. ripped music laptop`s external USB 2 Hub, and the unexpected SQ improvement results for what I did..
This laptop has been in use for close to ten yrs. 24/7/365, and for the physical placement of it on a shelf mounted on the back of my main A/V rack, I have been needing to use a USB Hub for cable management for 5 various attached devices( Track ball, a USB 20MhZ `O-Scope for displaying Lissajous pattern on the laptop, a USB to S/PDIF converter for the laptop`s music into my DAC, with (2) Ifi brand filter/re-clocker dongles in the USB feed to the converter)..
All USB devices seemingly powered by the laptop`s USB port, even though the multiport USB Hub came with a 3 amp rated non switching wall wart that is plugged in,.
After I added the 2 iFI filter/re-clockers USB dongles almost 3 months ago, I noticed that the laptop`s cooling exhaust port temperature was much warmer than before..
Stay with me here..
I had run across a thread here on A/K some months back, where I gentlemen was creating a USB split power isolation cable hack.
So I started thinking about hacking my multiport USB hub to break the laptop`s power feed inside to take off the handful of connected USB devices for nothing more than giving my poor laptop`s internal power supply a rest, not including it`s wattage upgraded SMPS brick.
I sincerely believe that the laptop`s ripped music`s SQ is better !
I went into this with nothing more than to relieve my laptop`s USB power supply loading thermal considerations of a burden with no expectations of any SQ changes, so no expectation bias was involved, and I hear this machines music all day long through various audio systems in my house, so I`m sensitive to changes to it, whether expected, or not...
Just thought to pass this little unexpected experience to this PS noise thread,
Carry on, folks.
