I think they're forgetting something important: if you send that much steel into space, you're gonna have a helluva big hole in Mother Earth. :nerd: :headscrat ;)

From the article:

The students also calculated that with all the iron in the earth, it would be possible to build just over 2 billion death stars.
They warned, however, that most of the iron is in the core of the planet.
They said: "Before you go off to start building your apocalyptic weapon, do bear in mind two things.
"Firstly, the two billion death stars is mostly from the Earth's core, which we would all really rather you didn't remove.

:lmao:

Only 833,000 years huh? Makes you wonder how they built one in only 20 in the interlude between Episode 3 and 4. And didn't the Enterprise D pick Scotty up off a Dyson sphere?

ATT picked it up for scrap value..... it's parked in one of the lagrange points.

I'm surprised that with economist's obsession with growth they hadn't assumed production techniques and conversion of elements one into another wouldn't have reached a point some time in the future where all speculation we might make about such things would resemble an amazonian native trying the imagine how Ford & General motors produce those metal things that move on their own.
The future, if our species survives, will be more bizarre than anything even science fiction can imagine.
