I just got a couple of Stereo Consoles, one Morse and another Admiral. The former is solid state and the latter is vacuum tube. They all have problems as usual.
I am an electrical engineer by training. I built mono superheterodyne AM receivers in my early teens. But I have no exposure to stereo and FM, nor to phono changer, 8-track etc.
The only label I can find on the Morse is "Chassis H-20". The PCB was built like spaghetti but the sound is very good. The problem with my unit is that the right channel has no sound. I took out the components in the audio section, three transistors and two electrolytic capacitors and tested them one by one. I found one bad cap and one bad transistor but still no joy. Then I realize that I have no idea about where the two channels were separated. So it is the time to load up some knowledge.
I have no idea how a vacuum tube receiver works. That part needs to be learnt. Also, the turntable on the Admiral console turns with a lot of noise. The arm seems to move by itself, not following the grooves on the record. I know it doesn't have much to do with the electronic part of the system. But I need to fill up the knowledge.
