Wow, it took their marketing department that long to discover this? That means that they're likely losing business and are having to deal with mis-set customer expectations and higher failure rates caused by perceived product not really being theirs. What a waste of professional time!

I am sure that quite a few of the buyers in big manufacturers have fallen for 'good deals' on Nichicon caps only to be blown out of the water in warranty repair and returned products after the product hits the streets. I suspect it isn't only eBay - that's what us consumers typically see - but has now permeated the industrial supplier distribution chains.

Nasty......

Cheers,

David

Valuable commodity parts have long been a problem for counterfeiting and for mass theft from distributors.

Stories of expensive microprocessors in OE appearing packaging turning out to be nothing but an empty leadframe to name one.

Expensive and allocated parts like NAND Flash chips drove the need for random binning of parts in rotary carousels in parts storage warehouses to reduce the chance of theft since only the computer system 'knew' where they were...

I bought a couple different types of audio power amplifier ICs off ebay and found they were all fakes. At a given supply voltage they did not match the authentic ones in power output and some of the fake ones blew instantly when I shorted the output leads. The authentic ones have short circuit protection and would not fail even when I left the output shorted for several seconds at full power.

Some transistors are faked. Pretty much all of the LEDs I purchased last about a week before they get very dim. Quality LEDs will last thousands of hours at the same current.

You name it and it probably has been faked.

I recall some info on the net where the creator of that photo confirmed it was a set-up/hoax.

I'll try to locate it.

I tend to agree. It looks like way too much effort went into making that up like that - because of all the labor it would probably wind up costing more than the original!
