Warped record - Too risky to play this one?

hi everyone

can you verify if this looks safe to play? i have a ortofon 2m blue and i just want to be sure. im not really familiar with warped records. i make sure to keep the shelf not too tight with records cause i know thats one way to stop records from warping. this particular record i had to return a few times and each one had various degrees of being warped. its the soundtrack to House On The Edge Of The Park.

I'd try it - if it skips, try increasing tracking force a little. I don't think you are likely to hurt anything, though I wouldn't try it the first time with the volume at 11.
 
I have a couple that are warped more than that one- My Rega Planar 3 will play them but they skip on my Marantz 6200.
 
It's a very small warp by my standards, but it is fairly abrupt, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that it might toss the arm up, only to come crashing down if the mass/compliance ratio is really bad. So I don't blame the OP for being a little hesitant, though I wouldn't think twice.
What I would think twice about is spending the amount of money new records cost in order to get one with a warp.
 
I occurs to me that the safest way for the OP to find out is to play the record a couple of inches in from the edge, where the warp is negligible, and then work outward, testing to see. Is suspect no problem at any point, but there is an issue, it will be revealled in mild form first.

Seriously, I have some LP's with serious warps. One has a pinch warp caused by mishandling when coming off the press. All of the warped LP's except one play just fine on my Micro Seiki DQ-43 w/Shure V-15IV and VPI HW-19/Rega/Sumiko. The pinch warped one (Quincy Jones, The Dude) will not play correctly on the VPI.

Oh it's nothing you did storing it, it comes down to the fact (obvious by the multiple returns) that the pressing plant is sleeving them prior to a proper cool-down (thanks RSD). That is not too extreme IMO and have seen way worse. Worried, contact MRL and he'll help you out.
 
Its really not that severe of warp. Like the man said set the tracking pressure to the max recommended and try it. I bought a turn table where I can use an outer hold down ring to suppress warps. But I haven't needed the accessory and they aren't cheap so I haven't bought one yet. But its available.
 
Short but sharp like that can be tough with some tonearms and cartridges for sure. I know some of my tables would have no problem with that but with others I am less confident.
