Water cooled EMIT-R

goodolpg

Just an old fart trying to help.
Saw this mentioned elsewhere on AK a day or two ago.
I know regular EMITs are not water cooled.
Are EMIT-R's water cooled, or even ferro fluid cooled?

There's no need for fluid cooling in such drivers, since the entire voice coil is exposed to open air.

That's what I thought, but a member who Frankenspeakered his Infinitys says the Goldwood replacement woofers are much better than original but he keeps going into protection and thinks it has something to do with his "old water cooled EMIT-R's"

The only expanded image I could find made me think well, I suppose it is possible...though I was thinking ferro fluid and not water.

Not a rocket surgeon for sure.
But I had just enough doubt that I did ask here about "water cooled EMIT'R's."
Guess I'm the dummy.

Nah. I would not be surprised if, in the world of amped-up car audio boom-boom systems, somebody has invented some type of similar cooling system as part of the "wow" factor. High-end audio, though, no. But, I did find an interesting patent looking around last night on the web. It was a water-cooled woofer. In the patent, they guy actually drew a rudimentary radiator attached at the end of the piping with a small motor pump to keep the coolant moving.

Things that make you go "hmmmm"....

BTW, ferro fluid needs a magnetic crevice, i.e. a voice coil gap, to remain in suspension. This is conventional tweeter territory, with a standard bobbin-wound voice coil.
G~

The expanded image I linked to above made think there could be ferro fluid in the housing part that appears to have two magnets.
I've dismantled regular EMITs but have not had any up close exposure to EMIT-R's.

When I saw the original post I almost asked where the radiator was...and if a thermostat was used to keep the EMIT-R from going full blast until proper operating temp had been reached.
