Waterloo Platter Pad?

I recently picked up a table that had a Waterloo Platter Pad on it. It's a heavy, dark reddish-orange platter pad. Judging from the number of pads that have been sold on ebay, I'm guessing people like it. What are your opinions of the pad? Is it worth using?

Depends on the table. If it has a relatively light weight platter with a tendency to ring, these mats will reduce that and bring about a richer, bassier and more dynamic sound. On well damped, high mass platters the sound will become dull and over damped.

Hi... I don't know if you'll see this or not as I'm new here and I'm still trying to figure how this works. I hope you do because you seem to know your stuff:music: I have a Music Hall MM5 with a glass platter. It's about 10 years old (Goldring cart). I moved to Ohio from Arizona and now the felt mat that came with it tends to stick to the album from static when I lift a record off. I'd like to replace it with something that won't do that. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance if you do see this (or anyone else who has a good tip!). WM

Leather is a good option. So is acrylic. Anything but felt.

A lot of static issues have to do with how quickly you pick the record up off the mat. Lift it slowly from one edge, grounding the other to the platter through your finger. Doing this every time you shouldn't really have any static issues.

I wouldn't be surprised if this trick didn't work with a felt mat...

Thank you for the great tip! I'll try the 'grounding' thing. Don't know if it will work on a glass platter, but it's worth a go.
