Weak bass on 9GX/KR-9000G

Greetings,

I've had this unit for almost a year now. I love almost everything about this receiver but the bass is incredibly weak. I have to turn it to 3 o'clock to get a decent bass response even on a set of book shelf speakers. The loudness button certainly works but is overly boomy. Could this be as simple as a filter capacitor failing in my bass tone circuit?

If it's still running with the original caps, then it's in need for a re-cap job!. I recently recapped a Kenwood KA-501 and it just kicks
a KA-8100's butt with bass quality and quantity!. The 8100 is not recaped yet but i will!!!.
