Hi Guys:

Just came back from my husband's nieces wedding in Panama City, Panama. Besides the wedding festivities we toured the Panama Canal, which was very cool.

Kinda hard to go to the family wedding - without my husband. But I survived and he would be glad I went.

I spent a week there long ago consulting on some engineering work in the Canal Zone. Beautiful place, very similar in terms of flora, fauna and climate to Hawaii.

For those interested in the history and construction of the Panama Canal, David McCullough's book "The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914" is highly recommended.

I lived there for seventeen years. My ex wife's father was the Lock Master at the Pedro Miguel locks (the next step on the Pacific side, just a few miles from the Miraflores locks; he was the man who actually turned the controls to raise and lower the ships in the lock chambers).

My current father in law was a ship's Captain and one of the Pilots who took command of the ship prior to its entering the Canal, transited from one side to the other and then returned command to the Captain after clearing the Canal.

I love Panama. Been going there once or twice a year since 2001 to buy art for my business.

The pictures look like the Intercontinental in Playa Bonita.
