Weekend Polk Speaker Score!

Had to share some of my excitement from a weekend score! Hit up an estate sale (my first) and came across some goodies! I snagged a MINT pair of Polk Monitor 10's and a MINT pair of Polk Monitor 4's along with a complete KLH Model Twenty Four set including the matching turn table. Oh, and the speakers came with super nice Esoteric speaker wire (heavy)! Total score! I was thrilled...oh and credit goes to my wife on this one as she found the estate sale not me!

Congrats! And kudos to your wife for letting you haul all that gear home!
The Monitor 10's a great sounding speakers and benefit from high current~high watts. If you find the stock tweeters tiring there are upgrades available.
That KLH system is all about vintage deliciousness!
 
Which Model 10? With the Peerless, the SL2000 or SL2500 tweeters? Polk has "replacements" for the originals....or at least they used to.
 
The Polk 10s are very highly regarded ($600/700 speakers around 1980, depending on exact variety). I've been using a set of Polk 4s (actually 4As, I think) in my bedroom system for several years. Nice small speakers. KLH stuff looks great too. Are you refraining from telling us a price, because you don't want to make grown men cry?

HaHa...yeah that'd be a good way to put it actually! Suffice it to say I would classify this as a "score"! Or is it scroe?
 
Nice find! My first set of real hi-fi speakers was a pair of Monitor 5jrs. I loved them but they ended up on the Division of Property List (along with a TS Yamaha CR-1020 that worked fine if you never used loudness). :sigh: Anyway, they sounded pretty fine.

And I had a pair of garage-sale 4s on the basement system for several years until that was dismantled. Those had been through a war appearance-wise, but they still sounded great.

I love that KLH system! The speakers look beautiful! Do they have normal speaker wire terminals or rca plugs? Is the amp in the turntable, or did you need to supply your own receiver for that system?

The amp is built in, and the knobs that you see to the right of the tonearm are for bass, treble, volume, tuning, etc.

On the unit in the photo, the bigger knob toward the front is for the rotary FM tuning dial. AM was an option and would show as a second large knob closer to the front.

Earlier production had RCA jacks on the backs of the speakers, and later units had screws (or was it the other way around).

Also there was a dust cover.

It's nice to see a photo of a model 24 without the usual gouges, crushed corners, water stains, and mildew growth.

That is a great set of Polks!!!

I use the exact same combo for music and HT in my MBR.
You will love them!

Thanks! I'm really happy with them. Especially the monitor 10's...I sold the KLH set it was really cool but I didn't have a use for it unfortunately.
