Hi all,
Taking advantage of the loads of free time at hand, I decided to get rid of that annoying crackling noise when operating some of the switches on my amplifier.
Nothing new to me, as I've done this many times on all my equipment.
But... This time something isn't quite right.
I literally just blew off the dust using compressed air, applied WD-40 Specialist Fast Drying Contact Cleaner on the switches and pots and gave them a workout. Then again, some more air.
Now, when I have the amplifier in use for around 30 minutes or so, I can smell something like burnt plastic - or like those old CRT screens.
I tried the "close your eyes and go sniffing around" trick, and have a suspicion that's coming from the tone switch. Or maybe is just a biased conclusion since it's the first time I have it on (+ bass and treble). I usually rely just on the equalizer to make the sound to my taste.
Is there anything I can check using an ordinary multimeter?
Thank you all for the constant help.
PS: I removed the bottom cover and inspected for smoke/burnt marks but couldn't see any. The PCB is clean.
PS2: It might be worth it mentioning I have encountered an intermittent issue with the aux input since then too. At times, when I switch everything on and try to play something via the aux, I got barely no sound on the right hand side speakers. After switching off and back on the amplifier the problem goes away. Go figure...
