Weird Fisher 500

Hi,

It's my first post here (just to let you know) :-)

I have come across a rather weird looking Fisher 500 receiver that I'm thinking of buying. The thing is that the cabinet has carvings that I can't seem to find on any other Fisher 500 T. Does anybody know of it? Is it perhaps a 'fake'? All information is more than welcome, thanks! And sorry for the poor pictures but it's all I have.

Welcome, I don't know about those vents but they definitely look cool :) Perhaps a custom job? The receiver itself looks like a 500T should, as a transistor unit you might not get a lot of info/comments here but you could try the Fisher forum under AK manufacturer forums. I would expect you could get a lot of info there.

You can press the "report" button and put a note asking the moderator to move the thread to the Fisher area.
 
It's a 500T. Looks like someone modded a non-Fisher cab to use for it (and nicely). Fit doesn't appear exact, but is not too bad.

Must of got a new drill and bits for Christmas and after a few adult bevs said "hey lets try it out".........

I "took a chance" and bought it yesterday. It seems to be in rather good shape though the volume wheel crunches a bit. Is it easy to remove and clean? And then a total noob question: what does com/remote and main/remote refer to? I mean: is com = negative and remote = plus on my speakers? I don't get it :-D One last thing: is the "RMS" in the middle ground for my turntable?

The RMS is the power output to each speaker at 8 ohm load. It's an unfortunate location next to the ground terminal and has nothing to do with the ground.

The era these were made were around the time that power ratings were becoming standardized on RMS output. Prior to that there were various power ratings used by vendors and little standardization so there was a a lot of "sales lying" happening prior to that period with the quoted power output.The 26W RMS per channel at 8 ohm load is probably a reasonably honest measure of the output of the 500-T. Doesn't sound like a lot but take a listen. It probably sounds pretty darned good when running in good repair.
 
The Com-Remote-Main-Com are your SPEAKER hookup's. Main is your (equating to 70's PIONEERS) "A" or Front speakers Positive, and REMOTE is your "B" or Back spkr POSITIVE. COM or COMMON is the NEGATIVE.

Also FISHER Grouped their Early S.S. Spkr terminals by side, not by A or B. So as you're facing the connections You'll see above the connections "RIGHT SPKR" or "LEFT SPKR".

The Screw head in between with the IHF and RMS ratings is a GROUND SCREW for Phono, or grounding to your electrical system as needed.
