Just a VERY random note. Not saying that this is an actual epidemic problem with a fifty plus year old tape recorder... But i've been now cut by two of them... From the trim portions on the front cover with either stainless steel or aluminum sheet metal trim.... Tonight, where's the worst and sent me to the hospital? To get a tetanus shot and have the wound dressed... I suppose this applies to a lot of new and old recorders and anything with sheet metal on the front.
I fix these a lot and I have two at the moment. The offending one was in the hallway next to all the other patients... Conveniently placed at the corner where I turn... This one had sliced b no less than five times previously... So sharp that I didn't even feel it... But the burning sensation minutes later alerted me and I knew something was up... But with a house full of prime suspects. It was really hard to nail down until tonight when it nailed ME. lol. I'm sure everyone's as careful as i... and most are MORE, probably... But you know... Ounce of prevention... Worth a pint of blood... LOL85256.jpegScreenshot_20240427_224705_Photo Editor.jpg

Did it attacked you? Or it can be classified as self-defense? ;)

Normally, hydrogen peroxide would be enough and explain to the tape recorder the wrongness of his actions. Tetanus is hardly a big problem, but rabies is. If the tape recorder is sick with rabies, then you have a problem.

Ouch! Yeah, got to be careful around sheet metal. I've been bitten more than a few times by sharp sheet metal cabinets, drawing blood. Really makes the phrase "Blood, sweat and tears" a lot more applicable on some of these units!

Yes, but I seem to get cut by something every week, and it had been 25 years since my last tetanus shot. I figured if one person needs to keep current on that shot it's me! Just a few years ago I found a big old brass blade Emerson fan at a yard sale... And i'm on my bike at the time. Bicycle. And so I'm riding home with this 30 pound fan. Trying to hold it as best I can... And I go down a rather large Hill... and I hear this noise in sounds like a jet taking off... And stupid me... It's the fan and it's spinning really, really fast! So I carefully slow down my bike. And i'm just about got the thing on the ground when it catches my thumb... And chews into it like a circular saw! I look over and i'm hoping it's not too bad... But I see a brass blade stuck halfway through my thumb... And my thumb is covered in eighty year old dust bunnies, one of them sticking out of the wound.... So yeah... Perfect conditions for tetanus... I remember I had to go play guitar that night. And they said you can go home early if you want! I said why? Is it the blood? Yeah ... It was the blood... I had wrapped it up really well but of course, playing guitar, itjust started to flow. Lol.

Lucky you! :)

I use to use a Dremel tool the smooth edges before installing the metal face plates on a Revox. I had two A-77 at one time and after seeing what happened to the face plates using metal 10 inch reels I decided not to use them on my machines. One slightly warped metal reel and that permanently ruined the look of the plate.
