Weird problem: When I'm working on audio gear, I'm usually playing music thro something that I've previously restored. (a final shake down prior to returning to its owner or sale). I've got a 1979 Boothroyd Stuart Meridian 101 preamp on the bench at the moment. As usual, it's cover is off and it's powered via my isolation transformer. The system that's playing music is in the same room but elsewhere on the house ring main. My test music system is a PC via coax to a Fiio DAC then on the the amp under test. Here's the problem: Every time I power up the Meridian 101, the music in the test system cuts out- only to be returned by rebooting the DAC. (Remember, the Meridian is on an isolation transformer). I don't think it's an electro-magnetic thing as I put a compass near it when switching on and it didn't even twitch. Considering the isolation, I can only think it's RF. Anybody any idea? I'm going to proceed with the service and see if that helps but I must say, I've never seen that before.
