Welcome to the Test Equipment sub-forum!

Many members have asked their questions or contributed their knowledge about test equipment in other forums or even in the DIY – Test Equipment thread… and we’ve now gathered enough momentum to create a place just for this topic.

This forum is a place to discuss, document and share all things related to test equipment for our audio gear. This includes recommended basic equipment for specific tests, tutorials on using specific kinds of test equipment, theory and mods on operation, troubleshooting guides or reference books/videos, hands-on / how-to set up and use some of the test gear out there, calibrating and repair guides, good sources for equipment, test equipment reviews etc.

Guidelines and forum rules
  • Threads should be focused on test gear and not the specific audio gear the test equipment is being used for.
  • Stay on test equipment topics and away from any non-essential personal agendas (e.g. comments about testing CB radios is fine, but not obsess about why you want to test CB radios).
  • Create titles for your new threads using terms you would use in future if you were looking for this information. For example:
    • Instead of "which cheap o'scope is best" use "which cheap oscilloscope is best" so future members searching for advice on oscilloscopes will find your thread without first having to learn "scope" and "oscope" are monikers or slang for oscilloscope
    • Instead of "voltages in power supply", use "voltages in Tektronix 465 power supply" so future members searching for this specific model will more easily find your thread.
  • If you see any issues with threads or posts in this forum, use the Report feature or message one of the moderators
Some reminders on AK rules. Please be sure to read them before posting so that the forum runs smoothly and we avoid any unnecessary thread disruptions. Of particular note in our discussions:
  • Be respectful. Differing technical approaches are welcome, but do not let them devolve into endless debates or aggressive arguments. State your point then move on. In all cases, personal attacks will not be tolerated.
  • Links to active auctions on any site must be posted in Dollars & Sense forum and not here,
  • Promotion of any personal sales items on AK must be posted in Bartertown, which is available to subscribers.
  • Questions of value belong in the Dollars & Sense forum
  • Thread crapping (e.g. replying in an existing thread with intent to change the OP's intended subject) will not be tolerated. If you want to change the subject, start a new thread!
  • Spam is not tolerated and will result in banning.
Ok, now go search for a solution to fix that piece of almost-working test gear that you got... to fix the previous test gear you salvaged... that needs another piece of test gear to finish repairing... so you can finally test the audio gear that started this whole cycle. ;)
