Well I did it too, upgraded from MC402 to MC501s

I tried to shut down the MC501s with the same Reggae SACD that I used to shut down the MC402. MC501s did not flinch. At no point were they even close to ever over-heating. The sound was so loud that I had to turn it down.:thmbsp: Winner, all the way around. 100% satistied. Bass was had more authority as well. Ok, I'm done ranting.

I have been toying with the idea of moving to the 501's or other mono blocks (Pass 600.5's or Krell Evo's) from a 402 like you. Other than being able to handle the Reggae SACD what other improvements did you hear? Thanks, Jim

Stillone,

Well I made the jump from a MC-402 to a pair of the MC-501s last month or so and I am loving every minute of it.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but while the 402 was great, the 501 amps make the soundstage become "spooky real" and amazingly three dimensional. Along with the greater detail, deeper spatial soundstage, and smoother more realistic highs, there is tremendous grip on the bottom end that just goes on forever...

I wish that I had made the jump earlier!

Now I am saving for a MDA1000!

Thanks for the update. Maybe I will go for the 501's then use the funds from the sale of the 402 towards the MDA 1000.

For lack of a better term, the amps sound, "clearer" than the MC402 and smoother. More natural sounding. I noticed the bass response was better right away. When I say better, specifically I mean more dynamic. The MC402 produced deep bass but the MC501 does with more authority and with more,"snap" in the bottom end. Making the decision to upgrade from the MC402 was a struggle. The midrange is also more, "lush." I was not sure inspite of all the rave testimonials that the improvement would be worth it. In my estimation, it clearly is. I wanted better sound and not just more power. The MC501s clearly sound better than the MC402.
