Went Nuts... Factory Order Audi S5

It was time for a new car. After a lifetime of Hondas, a Nissan, and an Acura, I started looking at the Teutonic sport sedan world. Sniffed around & test drove a Mercedes C43 AMG. Nah. Not my style. BMW 440i xDrive. Same thing. Just wasn't me. All fine cars, though. Mercedes was a little too flashy, and BMW... well, the 4 Series gets lukewarm reviews, and where I'm at, you can't swing a dead cat and not hit a 3 Series, so... I passed. Dealer had some sweet deals on the 4 Series.

Went to the Audi dealer and drove an A5. Hmmm... Asked if I could drive an S5. BOOM. That was it. I was sold.

Dealer didn't have anything in stock that I wanted, so we sat down and did a factory order.

First time I've ever purchased a car that I got to choose everything that went on/in it. Pretty cool.

Will be here the 1st week of May - maybe a week earlier. The waiting is the hardest part. I've spent time researching PPF, Ceramic Coating, and Window Tinting. Got a few quotes in hand, and will check out a few more shops.

I may go to a dealer that I'm not buying from and ask for a test drive just to get a fix in a couple of weeks.

Its a sharp vehicle and I hope it works out for you, spend the $4-5 grand and get the extended full warranty so issues are THEIR problem. I had a number of VAG recently and loved em but 2 things:

unless you are a whizz bang mechanic, you do not have the tools to work on it and every time that hood goes up its $1000 minimum. so get the warranty, it seems like a waste while under factory and I hate that manus make you do that but the VAG ac compressors ALL fail after 50K miles and so do the electronics head unit with quotes ranging from 4000-6000.

take the tranny out of comfort mode if you plan on showing off.....

I agree that an extended warranty is a good thing (as long as it`s a full-on bumper to bumper deal). Out-of-warranty Audis can be incredibly expensive to repair, especially anything trans-related in any of the Quattro models....

Definitely get PPF, and ceramic coating. Makes the task of paint care so much easier. I installed 3M PPF on my Sierra, it's really difficult. So have a pro do it if you want a top notch job.

Nice. Congrats! I've owned six Audis and currently own two (a full Stasis tuned 6MT 09 A4 and a 16 A3 quattro S-Line). I always go back to them. Comfort, handling, fun to drive.

I would agree with the warranty on any German car. Parts are insane and things will go wrong. Though my 09 is running 22lbs of boost, modded and the only issue has been a power steering line and visor clip in 10 years of hard driving. Even the clutch is original.

I have a number of friends that are Audi techs as a profession, all the tools, a shop etc and they will sell older cars due to repair costs (still have to buy parts).

Congrats, like the look and feel of the A5/S5 but for me the rearview mirrors are too narrow.

Drive a A6 (3rd one) currently and it is a perfect fit for me, the new ones are off the chart with their LED lighting effects.

Had to get stuck thermostat replaced recently out of warranty and it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Now there is a interior trim piece around the shift & MMI knob that has begin to "crinkle" due to the cold weather.

I wouldn't worry about it. Go ahead and enjoy. You have the new car warranty to work out any issues. I made the jump back to BMW 13 years ago from Acura. Yes there was maintenance with my '06 3 series wagon and I got the extended warranty. Will probably do the same for my '16 wagon when it is time. There's just a great driving experience with Audi and BMW.
