...In Gate City, Virginia. Guy had a big "Carharrtt" sign in his window, looked interesting, so we-Lauriann, my buddy Walter, & my self-went in. Dude comes out in jeans, a tuxedo jacket, bolo tie, long hair-straight outta the '70s. I asked him where he was gonna preach at, he said that was how he dressed. We started talkin', found out we shared an interest in guns, he brought out his EMF 44-40 single action hogleg, we had a nice chat, I think he was Nutz, but in a good way. We ended up buyin' about 3 pairs of shoes, & a couple other things from him. Made me feel good- He was a nice guy, I thought, & was out there trying to make an honest living, he & his wife, in a place FAR off the beaten path, against the Wally Worlds & K-Marts. I'll prolly go back...<grin>

Yeah, that was the thing-I actually got WAITED on in a store by somebody who actually CARED-And it felt GOOD to get "stroked" a little bit, instead of getting the "Melpew?" routine by some slovenly, disinterested, lazy teenager. Did we pay a little more for the shoes we bought ? More than likely. Sometimes, saving money isn't the point, though. Guy told me he'd taken the store over from his father, who'd opened it in '52, after coming to America from Palestine. The father had passed a few years ago, I could tell they weren't exactly setting the world on fire, but, hey, as I said, the guy was TRYING, & that was good enuff for me...
